Every January we all decide to do something about our weight gain over the holidays. First, we embark on making a commitment to get back in the gym. Second, we decide to restrict our calories to help speed up the weight loss. Unfortunately, calorie reduction is rewarding in the short term but doesn’t work long term. The body needs a certain amount of calories made up of protein, carbs and fats just to function. If you have ever gone on a low calorie diet, you know that eventually you start feeling run down and having a lack of focus.

The best way to reduce your weight and increase your metabolism is to increase your unsaturated fats. The best way to do this is to start incorporating coconut oil into your meal plan. Ideally, taking a tablespoon before each meal will help curb your appetite as well as ramp up your metabolism. Coconut oil is an inefficient food. It is an MCT, medium chain triglyceride. When I say inefficient, I mean that the body doesn’t store it for later but immediately uses the fat, which will help to keep your insulin levels regulated. When insulin levels are regulated, you don’t get the radical urge to munch on chips or desserts, thus helping you to make better nutritional choices. If you combine coconut oil with some other simple changes to your diet like reducing carbs and increasing unsaturated fats, your body will be ramping up and you will start to lose weight. Keep your nutrition clean.
